If you don’t mind me asking. Nutrient information is not available for all ingredients. You can also reduce it at this point if you’d like less liquid in general.

Done and done.

I make it all the time for week day meals. Info. My modifications:

Made it with baby red potatoes.

The trick is to brown the meat first, before adding to the slow cooker. I've updated the recipe to help it make a little more sense. Tag @aberdeenskitchen on Instagram and hashtag it #aberdeenskitchen. wow.

Check out these other “beef and beer” stew recipes: This stew we are making in a slow cooker (though you could make it in the oven as well).

Have made this twice following the recipe pretty closely.

In the instructions it says "add celery" but celery isn't listed in ingredients....have I missed something? Like many stews, this one is actually better the second day (and even better the third day). Beef stew usually is but this one in particular is hearty.

If you are following a medically restrictive diet, please consult your doctor or registered dietitian before preparing this recipe for personal consumption. I had to work on the Saturday I made this so before I left that morning, I quickly browned the meat on the stove, threw all the ingredients into the slow cooker, set it for 4 hours and bounced out. You can definitely try! Used same volume of potatoes but cut them in to halves and added to crock pot with browned onions, meat and carrots.

Yes, you do actually add the whole can! Great stew on a cold snowy night. I won ☺️ Making I again right now!

Tried this recipe twice and it came out great both times!
Definitely will be making this again. It will still taste good reheated, but know that these vegetables will be softer.

Seems like parsley or even thyme would work great with these flavors. You saved Slow Cooker Guinness® Beef Stew to your. I have never liked beer specifically because of the bitterness. This dish looks so yummy I want it right now.

Tomato sauce is actually quite different from tomato paste. Please try again later.

Hi Jen, sorry you were disappointed in the recipe.
We need to talk about this Slow Cooker Guinness Beef Stew.

Please review the Comment Policy. This is a recipe my husband got from one of his co-workers.

Hi, Erin — This recipe is for a 6 quart slow cooker so 4.5 might be a little tight. What a combination. After you add the liquid, bring it to a simmer on the stovetop then put it, tightly covered, in a 225°F oven for 6 hours (or a 300°F oven for 4 hours).

I am making this wonderful stew again today for the umpteenth time.

This is a good way to prepare it for slow cooking to hold flavor, plus the flour will help make a thicker stew. I don’t use turnip and celery stalks, since i don’t like them. Leftovers can be stored for up to five days or so, and can be gently reheated on the stovetop over medium heat or in the microwave.

The controlled low and slow cooking is perfect for tenderizing the flavorful but tough pieces of beef chuck roast, while keeping the root vegetables intact.

Left off puff pastry. Don’t get the Draught, get the extra stout.

I went over the recipe and it's more than a little confusing (whoops). I'd never had parsnips before, but I really enjoyed them. In a large bowl, toss beef together with salt, pepper, and flour to coat.

Was better then what I got in an Irish pub I had the day before…. Love it! My friends and my husband loved it as well. Served with some crusty FrenchBread and Decoy Cabernet. I’ve made beef stews a couple of times and always found them to have had too much of a tomatoe base to them. What would you suggest using instead? Will make this again!

Looks great, but the consistency is more soupy than stewy (is that a word?) Elise launched Simply Recipes in 2003 as a way to keep track of her family's recipes, and along the way grew it into one of the most popular cooking websites in the world.

I would use a large pot in a preheated oven for 4hrs on 100°C. But switching up your side dishes can bring a refreshing change to a classic comfort food dish. Basically, I'll be making this all year long, whether or not it's St. Patrick's day.

I love this recipe, but I have made a couple adjustments after reading all the comments.

???? This was easy to make and made the house smell delicious. thank you SOOOOOO much for this recipe- i've made it twice now and it rocks. Needs much more time in the crock pot. Stews are always better the next day. Vegetables were completely undercooked, recipe tasted like flour. It is Ireland’s most popular brew with, get this, more than 10 million pints sold every day around the world.

Scrape browned bits of food from bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon. Guinness®), 1 (17.5 ounce) package frozen puff pastry, thawed and cut into quarters (Optional), Super delicious!

Hi Jennifer, I have no problem with browning the meat and then refrigerating it ahead of time. I did add about a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce to mine because I love the flavor it adds to beef stew, but it was also delicious without it. Information is not currently available for this nutrient.

Once browned on all sides, transfer the beef pieces into a 6-quart or larger slow cooker. Heat oil in a large non-stick skillet; cook and stir coated beef, working in batches, until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes per batch.

Amount is based on available nutrient data. I’ve made it numerous times now. Cook for a minute or two, then add a little of the Guinness, enough to make it easier for you to scrape up any browned bits at the bottom of the pan. Your email address will not be published.

Everyone loved this dish! You can freeze the leftover soup, but the potatoes and other root vegetables tend to break down when thawed and reheated.

Hi Jade, I'm so sorry this didn't turn out for you!

My modifications:

1 Brown the beef, transfer to slow cooker: Heat the butter in a large sauté pan over medium-high heat.
